Earlier this year we shared a post of Betty Wallace on our social media. It was one of our most popular posts this year. It captured so many fond memories for many of you, that we decided to share it again as we loved hearing all your lovely stories about Betty.
Local legend Betty Wallace served burgers with the lot for just $1 from a store on Hastings Street from 1978-1999. When the building she was in was knocked down to build luxury accommodation, she set up again from a van, which she operated on the beach until 2003. The first thing you did when you got to the beach was order your burger, as she was so busy they could take up to an hour to be ready! Perfect timing for after a surf!
