Sourcing Overseas
Recently, I embarked on another trip to Bali, Indonesia. Since the borders re-opened earlier this year I have been fortunate enough to travel back twice, and this time I spent more time on the ground exploring new parts of the island.
There is always so much to see and discover on each trip and I never know what I'm going to find!
Days are spent exploring back streets across many different regions of the island, with the aim of finding unique furniture and decorating pieces.
During the pandemic it couldn't have be done without our wonderful suppliers and vendors. Having made those contacts before the pandemic was invaluable, as we were able to continue conducting business online.
Our cargo company then looked after the rest, transporting all our finds in shipping containers to Australia.
This year it has been great to return and see suppliers again in person, and to take more time to discover new places and make new contacts.
On my first return trip in May many businesses were still closed, some had disappeared.
Three months later, things are better, but many shops are still empty.
Sadly, I think it will take quite a few more years before Bali returns to normal again.
Other highlights of sourcing here in Bali are of course soaking up everything that Bali has to offer and watching the world go by.
The people are friendly, honest, amazingly creative and very hospitable. There is always so much inspiration and beauty.
And an added bonus is being able relax after a long day rummaging through hot dusty sheds down back streets
in a stunning spa like the new Body Works Spa.
The containers have now been booked and stuffed, and are ready to set sail!
The first is due to arrive mid-October with another arriving in mid-November.
And, we are excited to show you what is coming!
